Valve index base station blinking red fix

I was able to play through all of Half-Life Alyx no problem but today i noticed one of my base stations has a red blinking light.

What do I do to fix it please help? I want to enjoy my valve index! Showing 1 - 9 of 9 comments. I can only speak for Vive but in those base stations the blinking red light indicates a fault. That said, I have had a blinking red light on one of my base stations for about two years now. Works fine. There should be an error message in the Steam VR display. If there isn't, see if it still works and worry about it if it stops. How long does it take to get a new replacement?

I'll just refund my index vr kit if it takes longer than one week. That is going to waste the warranty if I can't use my VR kit and I want a refund. I also didn't pay the premium to be sent a refurbished base station. I want it new or else the kit goes back entirely. It's not picking the base station up in steamvr.

How do I return and get my valve VR kit refunded? I have the exact same problem today. Shame it appears to be common and that their is no other fix other than getting a new one. Mine had the same issue after I did the update. It happened the first day I got the index kit. I put in a ticket and they said they would RMA it. It has been 2 weeks and I still do not have any notice that they have shipped a replacement.Virtual reality VC headsets are all the rage these days.

There are a couple of ways this error can manifest, either as an error message error or blinking red light on the headset. This is usually the result of either a USB or a driver issue. If you see a notification in the taskbar that a driver is installing, wait for it to finish. Step 4: Relaunch SteamVR. Keep in mind that you may need to repeat this process more than once in order for the error to stop appearing.

Sometimes, plugging into USB 3. In that case, try using a USB 2. If there is a USB port already in use and working — say, one that your keyboard or mouse is plugged into — try moving the Vive connection to it. If, after trying all possible USB ports, you still do not have a connection, try resetting your USB devices using the following steps. This is usually due to a lack of proper installation permissions. Step 4: Check the names listed in the Group of usernames box.

Skip this step if the username already shows up. This error message indicates that the OpenVR driver failed. If you added a file or folder to the SteamVR driver directory, removing it should fix the problem. If not, you may not have the proper permission to write to the user directory. Step 1: Right-click in Windows Explorer and select the folder you wish to edit permissions for. Step 4: Check the names listed in the Group or usernames box. Double check to make sure the link box and your primary display are connected to the same GPU in your setup.

If you have to use a laptop, make sure the connection is using a discrete GPU. Error means that SteamVR was unable to load the calibration for your headset. To solve the issue, you will need to reset your headset to force the drivers to reinstall. Wait a moment. This error is similar to errorin that it indicates a failure of the headset calibration to be loaded by SteamVR. As such, the steps to solve the issue are the same. Make sure your GPU is fully updated.

Sometimes DisplayPort adapters can also cause this issue and need to be removed to fix it. This indicates that vrserver. Sometimes, this is caused by multiple instances of the program running at the same time. Step 3: Locate any instances of vrserver. All error messages between and are related to USB failures. Reinstalling headset USB drivers can do the trick.

Step 5: Reconnect your headset, this time using a different USB port, and wait for drivers to install. The inside-out tracking used in the Cosmos requires no setup, but some players have found that the tracking seems to skip a lot or develop inaccuracies.

The key is probably somewhere in the environment itself. If you are using a Cosmos in a dim room, try turning on brighter overhead lights. If there are mirrors or reflective surfaces around, try removing them and covering windows to improve the experience. Not all Vive games work with Cosmos models, and sometimes bugs prevent them from working properly. Keep checking for updates to see if bugs are fixed or more compatibility is added.Have tried cycling through all channels, including setting the defective unit to channel 1, while the other unit which shipped and worked as channel 1 is powered down.

PiTool shows this base station blinking at all times. SteamVR Stable and Beta versions do not show any evidence of tracking from the defective unit, although SteamVR Beta claims the second lighthouse is tracking. All behaviors remain the same. Also tried updating the firmware for the controllers without effect. Base stations themselves do not seem eligible for firmware update. My suspicion is that the lasers inside are modulated at frequencies beyond what they are specified for, causing some units to malfunction.

After all, the lighthouse is showing the dim red expected for the infrared lasers, white LED when the unit is not moved, and blue when moved. This is not the first time I have had a defective lighthouse - one of my two Lighthouse 1. That was a blatantly mechanical issue. Additionally, I will be leaving the lighthouses turned on all night just in case this is something like a disused electrolytic capacitor…. And if I am allowed to keep the unit for analysis, I may be able to diagnose what really went wrong with an oscilloscope….

Still not working. Defective unit. Working device was set to channel 1 for this test. Broken device was set to channel 1, powered on alone, then powered on with working device at which point tracking worked using the working base stationthen set to channel 2. At no time did the defective base station provide any tracking. If anyone could list exactly which channels are compatible with Pimax headsets, or force a firmware reflash even though update is not neededfocusing my efforts on those options is the last thing I can think of to diagnose this further.

Well, putting the Lighthouses in firmware update mode did at least let me extract the firmware files. Apparently these things can emulate FAT formatted flash drives….The battle was on to push VR forward and capture more dollars. As of this writing it is still expected to take eight weeks or more to receive an Index from the time you order it. Valve improved Index software support quite a bit over the course of the year — improving the menu and the library screen you interact with in VR, adding a 3D Passthrough mode which is experimental at the time of this writing while also making it much faster to switch the frame rate for each virtual world you visit.

Half-Life: Alyx makes incredible use of the controllers to enable optional interactions while driving you to play it for such long periods that actually fully releasing the controllers from your grip is both a relief and a subtle but important enhancement to immersion. Neither Rift S nor Reverb carry physical lens separation adjustment. I reasoned it would be equivalent to reviewing a shoe that was two sizes too small.

By the end of the year Vive Cosmos entered the market — with some tracking and fitting hiccups of its own — and Oculus Quest gained the game-changing ability to be both a standalone wireless headset and a solid option to use in a wired PC-powered mode.

The headset seems tailored to take some of the best features of Index like its audio technology and combine it with the same kind of input seen on the Oculus Touch controllers. In addition, G2 uses more tracking cameras than the original and that requires no additional setup. While I hauptwerk instruments adore the SteamVR base stations and their tracking quality — I set them up last year and forgot about them — outside-the-headset room setup seen with SteamVR is starting to look antiquated when compared with the ease of setting up or adjusting a guardian barrier in a Quest.

Which brings me to the reality of wireless VR. Over one year of use with both Quest and Index I found myself preferring both depending on the circumstances. These remain substantial reasons to consider an Index purchase. But without a convenient wireless option of any kind it is becoming increasingly difficult to make a clear recommendation for Index.

Wireless is just too important a feature to think about for VR buyers. The price difference between Index, Quest and other headsets is vast as well. You can buy two GB Quests for the same price as one full Index and you can connect those Quests to your Wi-Fi network to play games of ping pong in Eleven Table Tennis or afia kobi shs swordfights in Ironlights with absolutely no Internet lag.

That is, unless Valve gets a wireless option out the door. I plug in the power to the Base Station, it flashes blue for a few seconds, goes solid green for a few seconds, and then starts flashing red permanently.

Is this an indicator of hardware failure and thus just needs to be replaced? Or is it something that can be resolved with an update or an uninstall-reinstall scenario? Showing 1 - 6 of 6 comments. You should always contact support if you see a blinking red light on Base Station 2. I did. I'm going to try the proposed fixes.

But I think this is a good forum for other people to discuss this same problem, especially if they found a fix for it. Some of the ideas floating around on the forums are likely to permanently damage the base, which is why I recommend anyone who has that issue contact support first. Yeah that makes sense. I'm not planning on tinkering with the hardware or anything like that but if there's a quick fix and someone is able to provide it that's obviously easier than having to deal with Steam Support.

It usually blinks amber while it is booting up then if successful, it will turn to blue.

It can also flash amber if one or more of your cameras is having connection problems. It could also mean that you are not connecting to the internet. See the top portion of this article:.

The system is working. The light blinks for maybe 2 min or to hours and then goes back to blue. So maybe you are correct that the system is booting up. Thanks for your help. Hi chmelina. Are you still having this issue?? I have had mine for days now and the first day it worked perfectly solid blue light but on day 2 it started to flash amber - it then said the smarthub was off-line so I did a power cycle restart with both the router and base station and everything worked again - HOWEVER, the light remains flashing amber despite all 7 of my cameras working properly.

The base station is hidden so the light doesn't really affect me - however just curious if you are still experiencing the same issue. This could be due to range, or poor signal due to interference. If your cameras are working, this may not cause an issue for you but could result in inability to stream the cameras.
